DON’T LEAVE INFORMATION OFF YOUR CV!

3 things happen when a company or recruiter reviews your CV and there is information missing:

1 – The person’s attention is immediately drawn to the missing information. You have effectively highlighted the details you were trying to conceal.

2 – The person will assume the worst. If you’ve left your degree grade off, they will assume it was a 3rd class. If you’ve been imprecise with dates then they will assume you have large gaps in your employment and so on.

3 – This will now be the first question you are asked should the reviewer arrange a call. So, as well as drawing attention to the missing details, you are now actually discussing them. If this is with a company then this is precious interview time wasted discussing an issue you were trying to avoid.

The information that you leave out WILL come out during an interview process. If it means you fall short of the requirements or are otherwise unsuitable, this was always going to be the case. However, you may damage your chances for roles where it wouldn’t have been an issue.

PUT THE INFORMATION ON YOUR CV!

The anomaly in all of this is those with a 2.1 or 1st class degree, who leave the information off their CV. To those people, please revert back to point 2…
